Head of Health & Safety
Summary
YASA is looking for a Head of Health & Safety to manage our Health & Safety function across the business. In this role you will take responsibility for Health and Safety strategy including environment and sustainability (ESG) as the business continues to expand across its multiple sites. You will be working in a lead role being responsible for all aspects of HSSE work within the company, focussing on building a positive H&S culture across the business as well as monitoring areas of non-compliance or opportunities to reduce risk. You will be the lead for all H&S strategy, policies, procedures, legal obligations, and training whilst maintaining a problem-solving approach.
- Promoting a positive Health & Safety culture across the development, manufacturing and office sites, encouraging staff to adopt and comply with current safety legislation and ensuring policies are adhered to.
- Overseeing HSE inspections, site inspections, risk assessments and compliance audits in line with the business strategy, and supporting effective close out of any actions arising.
- Management of the H&S strategy, developing internal policies, and preparing summary reports for the Board.
- Continued development of HSSE management system, risk assessments, standards and procedures.
- Manage and maintain the HSE committee reviewing audits, HSE policies, working practices, and safety procedures.
- Interface with regulatory authorities and insurers on key matters such as fire risk assessment and certification, emergency planning and safety improvement plans.
- Providing managers and employees with information on legislative and corporate compliance, advising on ways of meeting statutory requirements and corporate HSE policies, HSE guidance and codes of practice.
- Responsible for overseeing all HSE training to help our employees meet compliance and raise HSE responsibility.
- Leading or sourcing training as required, working with the L&D Coordinator to ensure the effective role of out training needs.
- Ensuring our Property & Facilities are safe and compliant, including adherence to all Health and Safety requirements, legislation, and company standards.
- Working across functions, to manage our supplier and contractual relationships across the organisation in order to achieve HSSE compliance.
- Taking the lead on environmental standards and management system, promoting an environmentally conscious approach to work.
- Lead by example and mentor and motivate your team to deliver a positive H&S culture as well as excellent facilities.
- Providing support and data to the Quality Team with ISO audits and compliance.
- Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a high level knowledge of HSE legislation and any changes that may affect the business.
- Reporting to the Senior Leadership Team, providing important KPI, and data insights to be able to advise on decision making.
To succeed in this role, we believe you'll need:
- Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or equivalent degree.
- Strong knowledge and experiencing of auditing and membership of the IIRSM.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering effective health and safety management within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience in reporting to senior leadership teams and working in multi-stakeholder environments.
- Experience in conducting accident investigation and health and safety inspections/audits.
- Organised and self-motivated with the determination to succeed.
- Ability to be office based with a willingness to travel as required.
- Demonstrable experience of monitoring and analysis of a HSE management system performance.
- Experience and knowledge of ISO45001 and ISO14001, ESOS & Sustainability reporting
Though not expected, it would be very beneficial if you have:
- Experience working within a Tier 1 supplier environment.
