Material Controller
Summary
YASA is looking for a Material Controller to manage the end-to-end supply chain process, ensuring timely procurement, efficient material flow, cost optimization, and continuous improvement to support production and operational goals.
- Ensure timely procurement and expediting of OEM material requirements for YASA, while minimizing the impact on inventory levels and working capital.
- Execute purchase orders in accordance with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems, ensuring supplier lead times meet production schedules, while optimizing inventory turnover.
- Procure engineering parts, efficiently managing lead times, costs, and Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) to align with production schedules while minimizing inventory expenses.
- Manage the ordering of production consumables, carefully tracking expiration dates to reduce waste and ensure uninterrupted material availability for production.
- Drive supplier on-time delivery performance (OTD >95%) by actively managing supplier orderbook, maintaining consistent communication with suppliers, and mitigating potential bottlenecks in the supply chain.
- Provide data-driven insights and metrics, such as supplier performance dashboards and inventory forecast reports, to facilitate supplier negotiations and internal S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning) reviews.
- Manage inbound transportation by planning shipments in advance through groupage or consolidated loads, optimizing route planning and logistics schedules to reduce transportation costs while ensuring timely delivery of materials.
- Support material management for new product introductions (NPI), coordinating with engineering, procurement, and production teams to ensure smooth transitions and adequate material availability.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of inventory management processes, including VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) and consignment stock arrangements, to enhance supply chain efficiency.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives across both upstream and downstream processes, driving changes in behaviour and adopting lean methodologies such as Six Sigma and Kaizen.
- Monitor and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as supplier delivery performance, transportation cost, inventory turnover and continuously seeking ways to exceed targets.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance and relevant cross-functional teams to resolve any non-conformances or quality issues that could impact material supply and production flow.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and internal process standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, logistics, and engineering to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
- Perform any other duties as required
To succeed in this role, we believe you'll need:
- Proven experience in managing end-to-end supply chain processes, including procurement, material planning, inventory management, and logistics.
- Experience in managing inbound transportation, including planning shipments in advance.
- A strong understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and Lean manufacturing principles.
- Previous experience building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, and managing supplier performance.
- Experience placing orders to meet production deadlines while ensuring minimal impact on inventory value and working capital.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address potential supply chain disruptions, quality issues, or delays.
- Experience working with OEM and engineering parts purchasing, particularly if related to specific sectors like automotive, aerospace, or heavy machinery.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Though not expected, it would be very beneficial if you have:
- Understanding working for an IATF 16949 organisation.
Our mission is to lead the design and delivery of the best electric motor technology available. We believe that diversity of thought, and experience is a key driver of innovation.
