Summary

YASA is looking for a Lead Development Engineer to join and lead a small, dynamic team of R&D engineers within our Innovation team. Reporting to the CTO, you will be involved in a range of different R&D projects, creating bespoke software from simple lab kit to more complex test systems on our different axial flux motor solutions. The role will have a dynamic workload and will suit an individual who has a keen interest in technology and is willing to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Analysing data of motor performance from internal and external data sources in development and production
• Research and Development - Contribute to the wider R&D efforts at YASA, involving simulation, data analysis and lab work.
• Coordination of simulations and test data delivery to customers.
• Interfacing with the customer to schedule data delivery.
• Generating reports and presentations to communicate information to internal and external stakeholders.
• NVH testing and development of reduction, mitigation, and avoidance strategies.
• Leading a range of motor performance R&D activities, most of which would be simulation and software-based.
• Manage team workload and stakeholders to ensure efficient working and impactful delivery.
• Train and mentor junior developers and engineers.
• Test rig troubleshooting.

To succeed in this role, we believe you'll need:

• To hold a relevant engineering qualification (e.g. mechanical or electrical).
• A strong understanding of electric motor design and performance characteristics including efficiency.
• Experience in managing a cross-functional team of engineers.
• Strong electronics and data processing experience.
• Understanding of electric motor design and performance characteristics.
• Working knowledge of fundamental physics concepts.
• A highly motivated individual with the ability to infuse change and energy at all levels within the business.
• A strong leader with the ability to train and grow a small team.
• Strong problem-solving and self-learning capability.
• Good initiative, with the ability to manage own time and priorities.
• Flexibility in their approach to work, with a desire to thrive in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.
• Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams within the organisation.
