Undergraduate Case Study: Keshini Dawood

What are you studying and where?

I am returning to Cardiff University to continue my studies in Mechanical Engineering where I will be entering my second year.

How did find and why did you choose to contact YASA for your industrial placement year?

I discovered this internship on Indeed while actively seeking an engineering role for the summer. My goal was to gain practical experience in a professional setting to complement my academic studies.

Can you tell us a little more about your role at YASA?

I am a member of the Test and Validation team within the Engineering department.

  • I manage the entire testing process, from setting up data loggers and conducting bench checks to writing detailed reports. I coordinate with external test facilities, handling the logistics of sending motors for testing and analysing the resulting data.

What is your particular highlight from your placement?

A significant highlight of my time at YASA has been the opportunity to collaborate with a team of talented engineers, from whom I have gained invaluable knowledge and insights.

What advice would you give someone considering an industrial placement next year?

I highly recommend undertaking an industrial placement, as it offers a unique opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in a real-world environment. This experience not only helps in professional development but also encourages curiosity and continuous learning as you work.

What are your career plans after university?

After completing my second year at University, I plan to undertake a Year in Industry. My positive experience during these three months has motivated me to seek further practical exposure before graduating. Eventually, I aspire to return to the automotive industry after earning my degree.

Applications for our 3 month Summer Internship are considered during January & February for placements starting in July. If you would like to be considered, please connect with us via the link below.
